Technology is always deemed as a boon for democracy. Thanks to advanced digital technology, our campaigns team can communicate with our supporters and run campaigns to create change. We build the tech tools that help our team to send SMSes, customized emails, run targeted social media ads and more. We have also built tech tools that let our supporters communicate directly with ministers, parliamentary committees and other decision makers.
One-click solutions they say. But believe me, accessible, simple-to-use and transparent technology is not easy to build and certainly not cheap. We run all our platforms, our website, our communications channels, our mobile solutions on dedicated, safe, secure cloud platforms provided by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Heroku etc. We spend countless hours every week maintaining these tools. We code dashboards which give us a clear picture of what people want us to do and which campaigns need more attention.
We also collaborate with like minded and intended organizations similar to us and create tools together to save money so our campaigns team can use them more effectively. We use open source languages and frameworks like Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Our focus on using open source tools and languages saves us lakhs of rupees by not using paid services. We can use these saved funds for other useful offline activities like mask distribution and tree plantation drives.
We are serving lakhs of supporters every week with our in-house tech platforms and small campaigns team. But as our member base is rising constantly, we are in need of upgrades for most of our platforms. Jhatkaa.org is working on revamping its whole tech ecosystem to make sure we can serve all our members as well as our frontline campaigners effectively.
