Bengaluru’s transport body adopts sustainable practices due to citizen pressure!

Bengaluru’s state-run public road transport corporation had been following extremely unsustainable practices – ranging from the lack of emission norms, and purchasing highly polluting buses to even breaking policy by using buses beyond permitted threshold!

Jhatkaa.org initiated campaigns to instate modern EV’s and phase out the polluting buses. Our campaigns addressed several objectives, including emission checks, efficient Nirbhaya fund use, and increased funding. BMTC officials cooperated actively, making substantial progress in reducing pollution, launching a citizen-centric app, and improving their complaint mechanism, and finally, introduced 1300 new EV buses.

This campaign successfully emphasised the issue and was vital in the adaptation of more sustainable practices by the BBMP!
